Eine Blasse Wäscherin, Pierrot Lunaire Op. 21

Keith Kitz created contemporary motion graphic visualizations of composer Arnold Schoenberg’s melodrama Pierrot Lunaire, Op. 21. A setting of twenty-one selected poems from Otto Erich Hartleben’s German translation of Albert Giraud’s cycle of French poems of the same name. Though originally developed to project during a live chamber ensemble performance, their dynamic visual presence allows them to effectively stand alone with sound. The artists involved drew inspiration from a variety of sources to create this body of work, utilizing Pierrot Lunaire, Op. 21 and the keyword initiative “violence” as merely a place to begin. The final pieces range from kinetic explorations of geometric interactions, to intensely layered works of montage.
